Setting Goals and Sticking to Them with Positive Self-Talk

When you set goals for any project or idea, does it make you feel excited? I know that when I think of a business idea or a project of some kind, that initial feeling is one of excitement at the thought of creating something new. However, these thoughts are often quickly followed by self-doubt and self-defeating thoughts that stop me in my tracks before I have even started? Does this sound familiar? (I hope I’m not the only one who gets these feelings 😉

It can be very difficult to make the most of your life when you are constantly being negative and talking yourself out of being successful. Frustration can soon set in when these types of thoughts make an appearance. In many cases, people don’t even realise that they have these negative and conflicting thoughts! All we know is that we  often don’t have the confidence to stick to our initial plans and reach our goals.

Don’t despair, there’s a way to defeat these negative thoughts!

An Effective way to set goals which you then stick to is by using Positive Self-Talk, even if you have never been able to do this before.
So how does it work? First of all you need to decide what goal and objective is important to you. Once you have done this, you need to work out the logistics of how you are going to attain this goal. Self-doubt will soon make an appearance and when it does, you need to  respond with affirmations that prove your success without surrendering to the negative pressure.

Now, you’re making the effort to read this article so it’s obvious that you’re not a quitter ,so start believing in yourself!

Re-Programming Your Mind

Affirmations are basically positive statements that help re-program your mind for the positive. The idea is that when you have a self-defeating of negative thought you immediately counter it with a motivating statement. Let’s use an example: “I am capable of great success,” or “I envisage myself as a winner” are both examples of positive affirmations.  What we are doing here is replacing negativity with thoughts that will help you move toward your goals instead of further away from them.

Think this is difficult?…think again. Positive self-talk is actually easier to implement than you might think. The possibility exists that you are not actually aware of the severity of the negative thoughts and dialogue currently within your mind.

Once you begin with positive self-talk, it will strike you how you have been self-sabotaging your goals with those negative thoughts. This process can open your eyes to exactly how much this inner conversation has been interfering with your life. If you apply the process properly, you’ll feel energised and hopeful that you can now set goals and even surpass them by using positive affirmations.

Long and Short term goals and objectives will no longer be a problem as positive self-talk will help guide you on your way. And when you use your positive affirmations, you’ll have accessible tools to help you push yourself further than ever before. Learning to defeat negativity with positive thoughts is key to the achievement of your future goals.
